Nigerian Opposition Forms ADC Platform
Nigeria’s loose opposition coalition has decided to contest the 2027 elections using the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, ditching their earlier "All Democratic Alliance" name.
This includes prominent figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Nasir El-Rufai.
The move follows defections of key politicians to the ruling APC, and aims to present a united front against President Tinubu’s growing dominance. ADC, though smaller, offers an established legal structure for contesting elections.
Coalition leaders say this is about saving Nigeria’s democracy amid hunger, corruption, and insecurity. Critics counter they might struggle to gain traction against entrenched party machinery.
As 2027 approaches, the ADC-led coalition will need to rapidly unify messaging, secure funding, and prepare campaign infrastructure—no small task in a vast and complex electoral landscape.
