Nigerian Man Busted in India with MDMA, Police Uncover Broader Drug Ring
A 27-year-old Nigerian national, Jemes Sadjou of Anambra State, was apprehended on Friday, July 4, 2025, in Gurgaon, India, with 25 grams of MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine). Sadjou's arrest near a Sector 44 hotel followed a crucial tip-off to the Crime Branch of Sector 39 police, shedding light on a growing drug distribution network in the region.
According to police, Sadjou entered India ten months ago on a medical visa but allegedly shifted to drug distribution. He now faces charges under the NDPS Act at Sushant Lok police station. Authorities highlighted that the 25 grams of MDMA found is considered a commercial quantity, exceeding the 10-gram threshold. Despite this, police indicate Sadjou has no prior criminal record.
This incident is not isolated. It's part of a larger crackdown on drug trafficking in Gurgaon and across the National Capital Region (NCR). Over the past two months alone, Gurgaon police have detained more than 15 Nigerian nationals suspected of supplying drugs to various locations, including corporate events and private parties. Many of these individuals are believed to have overstayed their visas. Police also noted a concerning trend: a significant number of Nigerians arriving in India on various visas are reportedly engaging in illegal activities, including drug distribution. These operations are often sophisticated, leveraging tools like the dark web and digital currencies for transactions.
This case underscores the persistent challenges authorities face in combating international drug syndicates.
