All parties stand accused on multiple counts under Namibia's stringent Prevention of Organised Crime Act and the Anti-Corruption Act. The state alleges an intricate scheme designed to siphon off a staggering N$480 million.
Renewed Bail Bid and Accused's Testimony
Following initial bail denials for some of the accused last week, a renewed bail application commenced on Monday, July 14, 2025, and continued into Tuesday, July 15.
During the ongoing proceedings, Peter Elindi, one of the accused, reportedly took the stand. He attempted to distance himself from a crucial valuation performed by NAMCOR's engineering and technical department, a valuation the state has vehemently labeled as a "sham." Elindi asserted that he was not responsible for any purported flaws in the valuation process.
ACC Opposes Bail Amid Serious Allegations
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which was instrumental in the arrests, is actively opposing the granting of bail. The ACC emphasizes the gravity of the alleged offenses and the significant amount of public funds involved in what has been widely dubbed the "Fuelgate" scandal, signaling their determination to see justice served.
