NAFDAC Cracks Down on Illegal Trade in Lagos, Seizes N1 Billion in Fake Goods
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dealt a major blow to illicit trade in Lagos, uncovering an elaborate illegal operation and seizing fake chemicals, expired food flavors, fraudulent fertilizers, and repackaged raw materials with an estimated street value exceeding N1 billion. This significant bust underscores NAFDAC's relentless efforts to protect public health and safety from dangerous and substandard products circulating in the market.
Inside the Illegal Enterprise
The comprehensive operation led to the confiscation of a wide array of harmful items:
Counterfeit Chemicals: A substantial quantity of fake chemicals was seized. These pose severe risks across various sectors, from manufacturing and agriculture to direct consumer use, potentially leading to grave health hazards and significant economic losses.
Expired Food Flavors: NAFDAC operatives discovered expired food flavors, which can not only compromise the quality and taste of food products but also become toxic over time, posing a serious threat of illness if consumed.
