Despite fresh 50% tariffs, markets steadied by Nvidia’s surge to $4 trillion valuation
The markets showed surprising resilience today even as President Trump announced new 50% tariffs—including on Brazil and other BRICS-aligned countries . While copper prices climbed over 10%, the VIX remained near a five-month low.
Much of the optimism is attributed to Nvidia, which briefly became the first U.S. company valued at $4 trillion—a signal of confidence in AI’s growth potential.
The Fed’s recent minutes reveal a split among officials: some are leaning toward earlier rate cuts, factoring in trade uncertainty and shifting economic indicators.
Observers note that while Trump’s tariff threats have historically triggered market angst, this time the widespread focus on AI and strategic rate decisions has offset concerns—though uncertainties linger.
