Atiku, Obi and other leaders unite under ADC umbrella to challenge Tinubu.
Prominent opposition leaders—former vice president Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour candidate Peter Obi, and several ex-APC governors—have unveiled a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) aimed at contesting President Tinubu’s APC in the 2027 elections . Interim ADC chairman David Mark said their aim is to prevent Nigeria from sliding into a one-party state.
The coalition includes ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, among others. They argue that only unity among opposition forces offers a viable path to electoral success. Analysts caution it's reminiscent of the 2015 alliance that ended PDP’s 16-year reign.
The alliance comes amid growing defections to the APC, prompting accusations that the Tinubu administration is using state resources to sway opponents. Tinubu has denied such claims.
Still, debates are already emerging within ADC ranks: Datti Baba-Ahmed urged Obi to lead decisively, warning against a diluted approach . Meanwhile, Bode George criticized some coalition members for dual loyalties.
