Kentucky Church Massacre: Two Women Dead in Spree of Violence
A horrific spree of violence culminated yesterday 13 July 2025 in a deadly shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, leaving two women dead and multiple others wounded, including a state trooper. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Guy House, was ultimately shot and killed by police, ending the rampage.
The victims at the church were identified as Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, aged 32 or 34. Two men were also wounded in the church attack, one critically. Earlier, a Kentucky State Trooper was shot and wounded by House during a traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport, sparking the tragic chain of events.
According to police, the violence began around 11:35 AM when House shot the trooper. He then carjacked a vehicle and drove approximately 26 kilometers to the Richmond Road Baptist Church in southwest Lexington, where he opened fire on the congregation.
While authorities have not released an official motive, preliminary information suggests House "may have had a connection to the individuals at the church." Reports indicate he may have been searching for the mother of his children and, when she was not present, allegedly shot and killed her mother and sister, and wounded her father (the pastor) and brother-in-law. Sources briefed on the investigation revealed House had a history of mental health, drug, and anger issues, with past protection orders filed against him.
Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn noted the Richmond Road Baptist Church is a "small and tight-knit congregation," with many attendees being related or long-time friends.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed his heartbreak over the "senseless acts of violence." Investigations by both the Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police Department are ongoing as the community grapples with this devastating incident, highlighting the pervasive issue of gun violence in the nation.
