Katsina State Governor Involved in Road Accident, Discharged After Medical Check-up
Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Nigeria, was involved in a road accident on Sunday evening, July 20, 2025. The incident occurred along the Daura-Katsina Road, near the KTSTA Motor Park in Daura, while the Governor was reportedly on official duty.
Details of the Accident:
Head-on Collision: The accident was described as a head-on collision involving a Toyota SUV carrying Governor Radda and a commercial Volkswagen station wagon (often referred to as a Golf car in local reports).
Location: The incident took place near the School of Health Technology Daura, on the Daura-Katsina road.
No Convoy: Eyewitnesses indicated that the Governor's vehicle was not part of a convoy at the time of the accident. Some reports suggest the collision was due to an attempted overtaking manoeuvre.
Casualties and Injuries:
Governor's Condition: Governor Radda sustained minor injuries and was initially rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Daura for treatment, along with his Chief of Staff, Abdulkadir Mamman-Nasir, and one other person. He was later moved to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, for further medical examinations.
Discharged and Stable: The Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, confirmed that Governor Radda has since been discharged and is in good health and stable condition. The Governor himself released a short video clip on social media, assuring the public of his well-being and thanking them for their prayers. He stated he was "hale and hearty" but undergoing observations to ensure full recovery.
Other Victims: The commercial vehicle was carrying nine passengers, all of whom sustained various degrees of injuries.
Seven passengers reportedly sustained minor injuries and bruises.
Two passengers in the commercial vehicle suffered simple fractures.
Crucially, no fatalities were reported from the accident.
Government Support: The Katsina State Government has pledged to cover all medical bills and related expenses for the nine victims from the commercial vehicle, who are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Daura. A delegation from the state government, led by the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, visited the injured to offer assurances and support.
Governor Radda's Activities Leading Up to the Accident:
