VP Dhankhar criticises political atmosphere in India, urges greater decorum
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today issued a rare public critique of India’s political environment, calling it “not favorable for democracy” and urging lawmakers to treat rivals with respect instead of hostility . Addressing an audience in Jaipur, he emphasized that political exchanges steeped in aggression and divisiveness threaten India’s democratic and social fabric.
Dhankhar admonished lawmakers to uphold democratic principles, arguing that adversaries belong in the political arena—not to be vilified or dehumanized. He stressed the need for unity and ethical conduct, warning that the current tenor could erode trust in governance.
His remarks come amid growing disenchantment with vitriolic rhetoric from both ruling and opposition parties. Observers see Dhankhar’s plea as a rallying call to preserve India’s democratic identity and to reduce polarizing tactics.
