Governor Makinde Loyalist Resigns as PDP Chairman, Cites "Deep-Seated Injustice"
A prominent loyalist of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Seun Adelore, has formally resigned as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ibadan North Local Government Area, effective Monday, July 7, 2025. Adelore, a close associate of the Governor, also withdrew his membership from the party, citing "deep-seated injustice within the party, a lack of reward for loyalty, and a growing departure from democratic principles."
In his resignation letter, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent, Adelore lamented what he described as the party increasingly being run "like a private enterprise by select factions," undermining its collective spirit and transparency. He further alleged "vindictiveness, high-handedness, and a disregard for human dignity" within the current administration of the party.
Sources within the PDP confided that Adelore's resignation is strongly linked to the alleged imposition of Folajimi Oyekunle, Governor Makinde's Deputy Chief of Staff, as the consensus candidate for the PDP in the upcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election. Adelore reportedly felt this move was a betrayal of democratic processes and a disregard for the contributions of other loyal party members.
Adelore's letter articulated his disillusionment: "Despite my significant contributions to the party since 2018 alongside other loyal members, which contributed to the success of the current administration, I have watched with deep concern as values have deteriorated within the party. This pattern has become evident in the state, where loyalty is often punished rather than appreciated." He concluded by stating that he could no longer "lend my name and reputation to such contradictions."
The resignation comes amidst broader internal wranglings within the PDP, both at the state and national levels, with reports of leadership tussles and a perceived lack of internal democracy. While Governor Makinde himself has recently reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP despite a "defection spree" by other prominent members, the departure of a loyalist like Adelore signals continued challenges for the party's unity and cohesion, particularly as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
