“Good Trouble” Protests Mark 5th Anniversary of John Lewis’s Death.
On July 17, various U.S. cities braced for “Good Trouble Lives On” protests, marking five years since civil rights icon John Lewis’s passing . Organized by civil rights groups and grassroots movements, these demonstrations aim to “March in Peace. Act in Power.”
With participation expected across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, tens of thousands are anticipated at rallies honoring Lewis’s legacy and protesting Trump-era policies . Organizers include the National Urban League, Black Voters Matter, and the American Constitution Society.
In Utah, protests are planned across at least ten cities, including Salt Lake City, despite a prior rally in June that escalated violently . Cities nationwide are working to ensure events remain peaceful.
The protests reflect deepening concerns about civil rights, immigration, and socioeconomic equity under the current administration. Many view the events as both tribute and renewed call to defend democratic values.
