Federal Government Approves Promotion of 95 Senior Paramilitary Officers
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the promotion of 95 senior management officers across four key paramilitary services under the Ministry of Interior. The announcement was made by Major General A.M. Jibril (retd.), Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), on Friday, July 11, 2025.
The promotions affect officers in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The elevated ranks range from Controllers, Comptrollers, and Commandants up to Assistant Controllers-General (ACG) and Deputy Controllers-General (DCG) across these services.
Breakdown of Promotions:
* Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS):
* Four (4) Assistant Controllers-General (ACG) promoted to Deputy Controllers-General (DCG).
* Thirty-one (31) Controllers of Correction (CC) promoted to Assistant Controllers-General (ACG).
* Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS):
* Six (6) Assistant Comptrollers-General (ACG) promoted to Deputy Comptrollers-General (DCG).
* Twenty (20) Comptrollers of Immigration (CC) promoted to Assistant Comptrollers-General (ACG).
Federal Fire Service (FFS):
Three (3) Assistant Controllers-General (ACG) promoted to Deputy Controllers-General (DCG).
Two (2) Controllers of Fire (CC) promoted to Assistant Controllers-General (ACG).
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC):
Three (3) Assistant Commandants-General (ACG) promoted to Deputy Commandants-General (DCG).
Twenty-two (22) Commandants (CC) promoted to Assistant Commandants-General (ACG).
Major General Jibril stated that these approvals signify a "recognition of merit, professionalism, and the invaluable service these officers have rendered." He described the promotions as a "call to greater responsibility," urging the newly elevated officers to leverage their experience and leadership in their new capacities.

Disciplinary Actions: Decisions were taken on 224 disciplinary cases involving officers from the four services. Outcomes included dismissal, compulsory retirement, exoneration, warning letters, and loss of seniority. Specifically, 143 cases were reviewed for NCoS, 31 for NIS, 4 for FFS, and 46 for NSCDC.
Harmonized Scheme of Service: Approval was granted for the formation of a committee tasked with developing a harmonized Scheme of Service for all four paramilitary services.
Recruitment Drive: The Board approved the recruitment process for all four services and the Board Secretariat. Online applications for these recruitments are scheduled to commence on Monday, July 14, 2025. Applicants have been advised to be wary of fraudsters, with assurances of a transparent process aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda."
2025 Promotion Timeline: The timeline for the next promotion exercise in 2025 has been approved, with examinations slated to run from August to November 2025.
