Ex-Super Eagles Player Nabbed in Major NDLEA Drug Bust
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made a significant arrest, taking into custody former international footballer Segun George Hunkarin on drug trafficking charges. He was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, alongside his alleged accomplice, Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu.
The operation began when Chinedu was intercepted upon his arrival from Turkey, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. NDLEA operatives discovered 37 wraps of cocaine, weighing 800 grams, cleverly hidden in his carry-on bag. Investigations quickly revealed that Chinedu had picked up the illicit drugs during his layover in Addis Ababa. Further inquiries led agents directly to Hunkarin, who was reportedly waiting at the airport car park, poised to collect the dangerous consignment from Chinedu.
Hunkarin, who enjoyed a professional football career in Brazil for several years, confessed during questioning to having trafficked drugs on two previous occasions from Brazil to Ethiopia. However, he maintained that he had never before brought narcotics into Nigeria. This high-profile arrest is part of a broader, intensified effort by the NDLEA, which has recently resulted in the seizure of a staggering 22.6 kilograms of cocaine and methamphetamine at both Lagos and Enugu airports, and the arrest of multiple individuals linked to drug trafficking networks.
