Naira Gains as Central Bank Announces Strict New Capital and Digital Rules for Bureau De Change Operators.
In a decisive move aimed at sanitizing the foreign exchange market and curbing speculative activities, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has unveiled a comprehensive new regulatory framework for Bureau De Change (BDC) operators. The announcement, made by CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso in Abuja, is seen as the most significant policy intervention in the forex retail segment in recent years and is designed to tackle volatility that has put pressure on the Naira.
The centerpiece of the new directive is a substantial increase in the minimum capital requirements for BDC licensing, a measure intended to weed out undercapitalized players and consolidate the sector.
