Osun governor Ademola Adeleke dismisses speculation of defecting to APC, insists on PDP loyalty.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has swiftly addressed recent rumors suggesting he was preparing to switch allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC). At a press briefing in Osogbo, Adeleke categorically denied the speculation, affirming his dedication to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its ideals.
The governor emphasised that his electoral mandate came under the PDP platform and that abandoning it midterm would betray the trust of his constituents. He further urged political commentators and bloggers to focus on governance rather than circulating unverified reports.
Political analysts see Adeleke’s public distancing from APC-defection talk as a strategic move to stabilize his administration and calm rising tensions within his state. His statement also counters whispers of internal party pressure pushing him toward the ruling party in Abuja.
Going into the 2027 election cycle, Adeleke’s reaffirmed PDP loyalty may help the opposition maintain a firmer footing in Osun, resisting the APC’s push to consolidate southwestern state power ahead of next general elections.
