Milken–Motsepe $2 million AI Prize aims to accelerate intelligent manufacturing across Africa
A $2 million equity-free prize has been launched by the Milken Institute and billionaire Patrice Motsepe to stimulate AI-powered manufacturing innovations in Africa . The challenge aims to encourage startups and researchers to develop AI solutions in sectors like agroprocessing, textiles, and automotive manufacturing.
This initiative is part of a broader push to digitize Africa’s industrial base and strengthen its global competitiveness. By removing equity demands, the prize aims to attract diverse innovators—including those without venture capital support.
Entries will be judged on criteria such as scalability, social impact, and local manufacturing relevance. Winners receive cash awards and technical support, with the potential to pilot solutions across the continent.
Tech stakeholders view it as timely—positioning Africa at the center of the next industrial revolution by harnessing AI to drive productivity, sustainability, and economic growth.
