You are the embodiment of quiet heroism, and tonight we pay tribute to your legacy. The award and commendation ceremony stands as a bold symbol of our institutional transition from entitlement to merit, from routine to excellence. This year's award process was a deliberate, rigorous, and transparent endeavor aimed at institutionalizing merit within the Nigerian Police Force.
The event has received commendation from former Inspectors General of Police and the Progressive Governors' Forum. While we recognize that Rome wasn't built in a day and that change takes time, I believe the process of rewarding and commending performing officers in the police force has begun. I would like to sincerely commend the pragmatism, foresightedness, and thoughtfulness of the Inspector General of Police for hosting this second edition of the Nigerian Police Awards and Commendation Ceremony.
We in Imo State are indeed very appreciative and grateful to the Nigerian Police and other sister security agencies. From practical experience, there was a time in Imo State when we felt it was the end of the world; the state was almost overwhelmed by the activities of criminals and kidnappers. Issues of professionalism and corruption have been brought to the forefront by representatives of the President.
While the federal government will continue to do its part, I must also charge every police officer, regardless of rank or posting, to uphold the sacred trust bestowed upon you by the Nigerian people. Remember, the power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection, not for abuse but for service to your fatherland.
As we move on to the presentation of awards, deserving police officers will come forward to receive their honors. The event attracts top dignitaries, including federal lawmakers, heads of other security agencies, service chiefs, and retired Inspectors General of Police, among others.
