PDP Crises Beyond Atiku About People's Ego_ Gov Lawal
Interviewer: The PDP appears to be in the midst of a festering crisis, and so far, the governors have not been able to resolve it. What exactly are the issues, and if you were solely responsible for solving the problem, what would you do?
Response:
Let me begin by saying that no political party is completely free of internal issues—every party experiences its own share of challenges. The PDP is currently going through a period of internal crisis, yes, but these are not insurmountable problems. We are working actively to resolve them.
We have a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for the 30th of this month, and part of the agenda will be addressing these internal matters. I'm confident that with open dialogue and collective will, we will reach a resolution. These challenges are temporary and, in my view, not something to lose sleep over.
Interviewer: But what assurance can you give that the NEC meeting will actually hold on the 30th? Reports suggest that the Independent National Congress (INC) rejected the notice from the national chairman because it lacked concurrence from the national secretary.
Response:
That’s correct—the initial notice did face a procedural issue because it wasn’t endorsed by the national secretary. These are technical challenges that can and will be addressed. Resolving complex issues is usually a process, not a one-time event. I believe there are always multiple avenues to reach consensus, and that’s what we’re working towards.
As I said earlier, I’m optimistic by nature. Disagreements are part of human and organizational dynamics, especially in politics. What matters most is staying focused on the bigger picture—delivering on our promises and maintaining the people’s trust, just as we are doing in Zamfara State.
Interviewer: Your Excellency, you’re also part of the reconciliation committee chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed. What exactly is that committee trying to resolve?
Response:
Yes, I’m a member of the reconciliation committee, and our work is ongoing. The issues we are dealing with are mostly internal grievances—perhaps individuals feeling sidelined or not properly recognized. These are not unusual in a large political family.
We’re committed to dialogue, fairness, and reconciliation. The goal is to ensure unity and a common purpose within the party. I am confident that, with patience and continued engagement, these challenges will be resolved.
