President Bola Ahmad Tumbu, has stated that his administration will not allow enemies of peace to prevail in the country. He made this disclosure on Wednesday during his visit to Benue to commiserate with the people over the recent attacks on the Yellow community in the Guma Local Government Area of the state. More than 200 people were killed, and scores were injured, while houses and properties were destroyed in the June 13 attacks on the Yellow and Da communities.
The president emphasized that his administration is committed to investing in peace in Benue State and across Nigeria. "We are here to help you, as peace is vital to development. You were elected under the progressive banner to ensure peace, stability, and progress so that we can come and commission projects and celebrate your achievements," he said.
He encouraged the local leaders to work together towards peace, acknowledging that not everyone will support them politically. "I appeal to you during this critical time; the governor needs your help. Help support him and embrace peace. Let's establish a committee, including non-indigenous representatives and the governors of Nasarawa and Benue, to create synergy for peace, development, and prosperity. We are here to govern, not to bury. We are here to raise families, not to lose them."
He urged the leaders to communicate and collaborate on addressing challenges and moving towards prosperity together. "We need to create this leadership committee and meet regularly, including in Abuja."
The president expressed concern about the lack of arrests in response to the violence, stating, "I expect that those criminals should be apprehended. We need to keep our ears to the ground and ensure these criminals are brought to justice."
