Court Of Appeal In Akure Declines APC's Request On Local Government Poll Case.
The Court of Appeals sitting in Aurora, Uno State, has declined to relist an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the judgment of a federal high court that nullified the 2022 local government election in Osun State. This appeal was dismissed for lack of prosecution, as it did not meet the necessary conditions to be relisted.
While addressing journalists shortly after the judgment, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolawole Akintayo, stated that the outcome should put to rest the political issues allegedly created at the third tier of government by the APC. He mentioned that the state government is awaiting the certified true copy of the ruling, which will be served to the Attorney General of the Federation and all security agencies to allow the PDP-elected council executives to resume their duties at the various local governments.
However, the APC, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Labisi, urged residents of the state to disregard the lies and misinformation spread by the PDP regarding the ruling. The statement clarified that the judge did not reinstate the PDP council executives. It emphasized that the Court of Appeal upheld the judgments delivered on February 10 in favor of the APC and did not issue any orders directing security agencies to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The APC expressed its intention to wait for the certified true copy of the judgment, upon which they plan to notify all relevant federal government agencies, including the Honorable Attorney General of the Federation, whom they believe respects the rule of law. The statement concluded that with this judgment, all political issues have been resolved, and they are optimistic that their funds will be released, as the case before the Supreme Court has now become unassailable.
